Description of Utility Need
NYSEG and RG&E are seeking to establish a viable model for scaling turnkey fleet electrification services, including financing, vehicles, and charging infrastructure, for utilization by commercial fleet owners to accelerate the electrification of fleets. Any steps toward simplifying fleet electrification, including by reducing upfront costs for customers and making operating expenses predictable, will be key to widespread vehicle electrification in New York State.
Expected Impact
This solution should contribute to adding electric vehicles (EVs) and developing electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) in NYSEG and RG&E’s service areas, helping to achieve state Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) Memorandum of Understanding goal of approx. 850,000 ZEVs registered in New York State by 2025. Under the Make-Ready Program, this amounts to a total target of 13,457 Level 2 and 399 Direct Current Fast Chargers in NYSEG and RG&E’s service areas.
Target Customers and/or Applications
Preferred solutions will target commercial light-, medium-, and heavy-duty fleets.
Types of Partnerships and Solutions Being Considered
NYSEG and RG&E are interested in preferably turnkey solutions addressing vehicle financing, vehicle accommodation, EVSE, and predictable fuel costs. This may take the form of a public–private partnership, for example with a municipality. The ideal solution will bring in fleet participants.
Funding Pathways
NYSEG and RG&E’s EV Make-Ready Program provides incentives to program participants for eligible EV make-ready infrastructure up to the target number of plugs and/or the authorized budget detailed in the Make-Ready Plan.
If a compelling solution requires additional utility investment, it may be considered for REV Demo funding.
