Description of Utility Need
PSEG Long Island is seeking solutions to increase the hosting capacity of its distribution system. The utility is experiencing a rise in DER penetration and therefore would like to explore cost effective technology and proven methods that can be implemented to increase hosting capacity on the distribution system.
Expected Impact
The desired solution will:
- Increase hosting capacity to accommodate DER on the distribution system and reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- Explore ways to optimize the operations of the DER on the system with higher penetration of DER on the system (ex. Proof of concept for Smart Inverters and integrating it into system to show its benefits).
- Increase customer satisfaction by supporting greater adoption of DER and maintaining system reliability with a higher penetration of DERs
Target Customers and/or Applications
Solutions may target a variety of different DERs or customer segments.
Types of Partnerships and Solutions Being Considered
PSEG Long Island will consider partnership models with utility ownership, payment for services, and/or performance payments.
Solutions may include hardware, software, and/or associated services, which improve monitoring and control of dynamic hosting capacity.
Ideal submitters will have demonstrated cost-effective and commercially available solutions, rather than submitting an unproven concept.
Funding Pathways
Compelling solutions may be considered for incorporation into proposed funding for PSEG Long Island’s 2021 Utility 2.0 Plan, which will be submitted in mid-2021.
